Happy September

Happy September everyone!!!
Here is my official first newsletter of the 2015-2016, school year. I hope this newsletter finds everyone well. Getting the best teachers hired is always a priority—every year!!!!  I was fortunate to hire a 5th kindergarten teacher the first week of school, Mrs. Mendel. We now have five sections of kindergarten. I am still in the process of hiring classroom paraprofessionals and have been working on this for these first few weeks. Hopefully, we will be fully staffed by the end of this week.
There are so many exciting things happening at DeMiguel School!!! First of all, for those who haven’t entered our front office—there is a “doorbell” that you need to push in order to have admission into our school. This is a quick way to be able to communicate with everyone-- and this is a great safety feature! Speaking of safety features; if you pick up your child afterschool you are asked to hang a DeMiguel car tag from your front mirror! This helps us identify cars that are “supposed” to be in our pick-up lane. This is not fool-proof, however, it is another safety step we have taken.
We have a many new PTO board members this year! Please attend our next PTO meeting so you can meet the new members and listen to what is going on!!!
On September 8th, the FUN RUN kicks off!! Your child(ren) will receive their pledge packets on the 8th. Hopefully you received my newsletter about the FUN RUN. We are looking forward to another successful fund raiser.
I have sent home the Parent Bill of Rights—which is on our FUSD/DeMiguel homepage. On the webpage is our FUSD Elementary Handbook as well. Inside the handbooks there is a lot of information about our FUSD schools and your rights as parents/guardians. Please read the handbook—as important FERPA information is in there. If you would like a hard copy, please email me.

We are already getting many lost and found items! There are many sweaters/jackets, and lunch boxes. We end up giving so many items away to charity. It really helps if you can put your child’s name in clothing items and/or lunch boxes.

Wishing everyone a fantastic fall! If you have questions, comments, concerns, or positives—email me at nwilson@fusd1.org

Respectfully,
Ninon

Fun Run

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for your support of DeMiguel School and the investments you make in your children’s lives. We are so excited to introduce you to this semester’s only major fundraiser, the Apex Fun Run! The Apex Fun Run will last for 2 weeks and will kick off with a Pep Rally on September 8th, 2015.
Please look for your child’s Pledge Kit that they will receive on that day. We will have emails coming from your teachers. Please feel free to visitwww.apexfunrun.com to hear about this interactive program that helps schools all over the country raise money, while promoting leadership and fitness in the classes. This year's character theme is Dream Team, where students will join Johnny Dreamer and the Apex team in an exciting journey to learn what it means to become a Dream Team Leader:
o Dive In!
o Resourceful!
o Elevate Others!
o Attitude Check!
o Make A Difference!
During the Apex Fun Run, students are challenged to get pledges for the laps they will run on Thursday, September 17th, to help their school. Students will run for 30 minutes and average 26-36 laps, with the maximum amount of laps being 36 (each lap is 1/16th of a mile). Sponsors can pledge $1, $2, $5 or any other amount for each lap students run. All participants will receive an access code that allows you to enter pledges online. Funds raised this year will be going to the school to pay for technology and/or electronic marquee and/or rubber entry mats, based upon what we raise.
The Apex Fun Run is for every student regardless of financial giving. All students will receive Apex bands, race-day lap counters, and team awards. We invite all parents to come to the Apex Fun Run and share in this great event! The times for the Apex Fun Run will be sent home soon!
You can help our school be successful in the following four ways:
• Help connect your child to potential sponsors (family/friends) to acquire pledges.
• Ask your child about the “Dream Team” character lessons, and download the “Apex Fun Run” App!
• Come to the Apex Fun Run and don’t forget to invite others to attend our fun-filled community event on our field.
• Help volunteer for the race! We need a few parents to help cheer on students and mark laps. If you would like to volunteer for your student’s race, please contact Amber or Heidi at demiguelpto@hotmail.com.

Open House/Ice Cream Social

Script for Robo Call--Sunday 4:30.
Thank you for a great first week of school!

Our end of the day dismissal is going smoother, thank you. We have marked the street where k-1 pick-up, 2-5 pick-up, and bus lane line up. The lines are for PM dismissal only. AM drop off is the same as usual, k-5 drop off in front, and buses on the east side of the building. Parents that are picking up walkers--thank you for staying back from our lower east exit area. Please remember that students should load and unload on the right side of your car (this applies for both the AM and PM). Thank you.

Just a reminder that our Open House/Ice Social is this Thursday, August 20th. 5:30-6:15--1st and 2nd grade students/families meet in classrooms, 6:15-7:00-- 2nd-5th grade students/families meet in classrooms. Our Kindergarten students/families please come for ice cream any time between 5:30 and 7:00. We hope everyone can attend. Have a great evening.

Great first two days!

Thank you for a great first 2 days of school! Teachers were busy teaching-- and students were practicing our school wide procedures.
Our PM dismissal time, was a bit slower than usual. Next week, some of the car traffic should subside and we can see the effectiveness of the travel patterns. We may or may not need to make some adjustments. Thank you for being patient. Reminder: students must load on the curbside (right sight). We don't want students going around to the left side, as there is a passing lane on the left side. In the AM, please ONLY drop off students on the curbside, not in the middle lane. Thank you!!!!

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

The students will be dropped off in the AM as usual, in the front of the school. All students that are  picked up in the PM will do so on the EAST side of our building. There will no longer be any pick up in the front of the school in the afternoon. Don't worry--we will be outside guiding you at dismissal time.

Please sign up to help out if you can! We communicate with our families in a variety of ways:  emails, our DeMiguel Blog, Facebook, DeMiguel website , Connect Ed phone calls, and teachers’ letters home. If you have a specific question, please email me at nwilson@fusd1.org.

We are working on creating a climate that educates all students and allows for flexibility of different learning styles and maximizing potential of every student. There are certain expectations for every grade level--so stay tuned for exciting happenings in your child’s classroom. If you are interested in getting more involved; please attend our PTO meetings.

The DeMiguel team encourages families to become involved in all aspects of their child’s educational experience. At DeMiguel, we believe that families and staff working together create an environment that enables students’ success.  As your DeMiguel faculty we are committed to creating the best educational experience for your child. Let the learning begin! 2015-2016
** Drop off and Pick up**
Morning Drop Off- Is just that, be ready to have your child(ren)unload quickly. Please do not have long discussions at our drop-off. This will enable the traffic to move quickly and smoothly. Drop off is at the flag pole in the front, at 8:15. We do not have supervision until 8:15.

Afternoon Pick-up-  Please help us keep all children safe by following the following procedures.

ENTERING DEMIGUEL FROM GILLENWATER
There are two one- way lanes that enter the school on S. Gillenwater. The left lane and right lane go to our EAST entrance where K-5 graders are picked up. This is new for the 2015-2016 school year. We will be there in the afternoon to show folks where to go.

I am thankful and honored to have served the DeMiguel learners and community for eight years. Each year I learn so many things from our littlest lobos. I enjoy each day that I am here!

Respectfully,
Ninon Wilson

All visitors need to stop by the office to obtain a Visitor’s Pass. There is a buzzer on our entrance door that has been installed.  There will be a reminder on all classroom doors. We will check ID of individuals coming in to pick up students early. Except for the ONE front door, the doors will remain locked during the day.
