Book Drive

To: Students and Parents of DeMiguel

Thank you for the donations of books and Bookman’s credit that was given to the library during the DeMiguel Book Drive.

We got some great books to put into our circulation for the students to check out.  I will also be going to Bookman’s to get some titles we don’t have in our library at this time.

Thank you again for your support of DeMiguel Library.

I am sure you know that no other school in Flagstaff provides the unique learning opportunities that every child, including yours, receives at DeMiguel Elementary. How? Because of the Tax Credit contributions people like you make to our school each year.

Any Arizona tax-payer may make a Tax Credit contribution to DeMiguel School.

If you haven't already done so, we hope you are planning to make your annual Tax Credit contribution to DeMiguel School before December 31st, 2013. The Arizona Public School Tax Credit program provides great advantages both to you and to our school.

Your Tax Credit contributions are used for a variety of things, including field-trips, Chess Club, Odyssey of the Mind, Lego Robotics, and enrichment assemblies.

Each dime of your contribution has been spent to broaden and enrich the educational learning experiences of every student at DeMiguel. Every kid at DeMiguel has received benefit from these contributions, and they will continue to, year after year, provided we are to be able to raise these funds in order to sustain our programs .

Arizona's Tax Credit program works to the advantage of most tax-payers. Whether you're a single parent, a married family filing jointly, or a more mature couple with grown children, Arizona's Tax Credit program enables you to give part of your annual state taxes directly to DeMiguel School, rather than to the state Department Of Revenue.

Thank you for your support of our GREAT School!

Hello DeMiguel families:

Our teachers officially come back to work tomorrow! They'll be super-busy in meetings, writing plans, and getting their classrooms ready all day on both Thursday and Friday.  There are a few updates that I would like to share with you.  We were very fortunate in opening two new sections---one in first grade and one in third grade.  We would like to welcome

Mrs. Corrie Gonzales to first grade

Miss Elaine Layman to third grade

Here is some other important information—if your child was assigned, in second grade, to Mrs. Scheid he/she will be in Mrs. Bergeron’s class. Mrs. Scheid is going to take our resource position.

Kindergarten registration is Thursday August 8th, 2013 5:00-6:00, in the kindergarten classrooms.

Remember on Friday you can come by and meet the teacher and bring in supplies from 2:30-3:30. If your child is assigned in Mrs. Wolfe’s or Ms. Morrow’s third grade class you can meet them in the Commons. Please have your child bring in supplies on the first day of school.   Their classrooms are in the portables and they will be completed over the weekend.
Remember, we start school Monday, August 12th at 8:40. We are looking forward to a great year.

Please sign up to help out if you can! We communicate with our families a variety of ways:  emails, our DeMiguel Blog, Facebook, DeMiguel website , Connect Ed phone calls, and teachers’ letters home. If you have a specific question, please email me at nwilson@fusd1.org

We are working on creating a climate that educates all students and allows for flexibility of different learning styles and maximizing potential of every student. There are certain expectations for every grade level--so stay tuned for exciting happenings in your child’s classroom. If you are interested in getting more involved; please attend our PTO meetings.

The DeMiguel team encourages families to become involved in all aspects of their child’s educational experience. Research has demonstrated that students achieve a higher level of academic achievement if their parents are actively involved. At DeMiguel, we believe that families and staff working together create an environment that enables students’ success.  As your DeMiguel faculty we are committed to creating the best educational experience for your child. Let the learning begin! Our classrooms –K-5th will be using Harcourt Reading, Envision Math, TCI for Social Studies, FOSS Kits for Science,  Engineering is Elementary(1st - 5th),  Rocket Math (1st-5th), and AR reading (1st-5th). We also challenge our students to be great writers. Our school K-5 has will continue to focus on the writing traits and the writing process by monthly writing prompts and evaluation.

2013-2014
** Drop off and Pick up**
Morning Drop Off- Is just that, be ready to have your child(ren)unload quickly. Please do not have long discussions at our drop-off. This will enable the traffic to move quickly and smoothly. Drop off is at the flag pole in the front, at 8:15. We do not have supervision until 8:15.

Afternoon Pick-up-  Please help us keep all children safe by following the following procedures.

ENTERING DEMIGUEL FROM GILLENWATER
There are two one way lanes that enter the school on S. Gillenwater. The left lane is the one that goes to our EAST entrance where Kindergarten and first graders are picked up. This is also the lane used for emergency vehicles, buses, handicapped parking, and people wishing to park and come in the building.  The right lane (going down Gillenwater) is for individuals picking up students at the flag pole or for individuals who wish to park and come inside.

ONCE YOU HAVE PASSED THE CIRCLE DRIVE
Once you pass the circle drive there are another  two lanes. The left lane is if you want to park (in the front of the building) and come inside. The right lane is for pick-up of students 2nd-5th  by the flag pole.

I am thankful and honored to have served the DeMiguel learners and community for five years. Each year I learn so many things from our littlest lobos. I enjoy each day that I am here!

Respectfully,
Ninon Wilson

lockdown

We will be conducting a Lockdown Drill next Tuesday January 22nd 2013, at approximately 1:30 PM. We conduct fire drills monthly and lockdown drills every quarter.  We do not give notice to our students. However, in view of recent... current events, we believe it would be of benefit to our entire community to conduct this next drill “in the open” giving our teachers, students, and parents a chance to discuss the importance of such practice exercises as well as the proper protocols. Here is what occurs in a lockdown drill. If you feel you should discuss this procedure with your child(ren)please do so. We do not want to cause undue anxiety.

· A member of the office staff will say “This is a lockdown” over the intercom. It does not matter if the announcement is a drill or not. You must treat every lockdown announcement with the same level of seriousness.
· Your teacher will lock and close your classroom door and turn out the light. He/She may also choose to move you to a corner of the classroom, away from the windows, to sit on the floor.
· If you are not in a classroom when the announcement is made, you should go to the nearest classroom immediately or seek out an adult in the hall who will escort you to the nearest safe location.

· When the lockdown is over you will hear an announcement saying “The lockdown is over,” or a member of the office staff or a police officer will open your classroom door and give your further instructions. You must listen to these directions carefully and do exactly as you are told.

Thank you.
